Beheshta Nazar Mohammad

Since her father died of a heart condition four years ago Beheshta’s illiterate mother has been responsible for taking care of her and her four brothers. Her favorite subject in school is Dari. She has a love for education and hopes to someday become a teacher. |

Shabnam’s father was killed ten years ago in war and her mother is unable to work due to a heart condition. Her two brothers struggle to earn enough money by farming for the family and barely meet the family’s financial needs. She loves school and her favorite subjects are math and history. She hopes to continue her education and someday become a doctor. |

Zamzama is only seven years old yet she dreams of being a doctor one day. Her father recently died because of cancer just last year and he left behind Zamzama, her brother, and her mother. |
Nazifa Abdul Habib

1st grade in Ghazi Hadi school, age 6.

Just two months ago Nazifa’s father passed away because of cancer. Since her father was a government employee they were provided a temporary housing situation after his death. However this help will soon end and they will need to vacate their house. Nazifa’s favorite subject in school is math and she hopes to become a doctor. |

4th grade in Nahid Shahid(Shaheed) school, age 10.

Zahra has a sister and two brothers. Her mother cooks and sells goods in the local women’s garden a few days a week. Their father died in conflict four years ago and their mother has been financially responsible for the family. |
Haseebullah Najeebullah
Age 2.

Haseebullah is only two years old and his father died one year ago due to cancer. He lives with his mother in a family friend’s house and they are in desperate economic need. |

5th grade in Asif Mayel school, age 12.

Nilofar’s father disappeared four years ago when visiting Iran. Her mother has been taking care of Nilofar, her three brothers, as well as her grandmother on the wages she earns as a maid. She has one older brother who is in the 7th grade and two younger in the 3rd and 4th grades. |
